How Are Metamorphic Rocks Formed

As with other types of rocks, how are metamorphic rocks formed is a very long and drawn out discussion. Every rock in the word can actually become a metamorphic rock if it is in the right place at the right time. For the most part, a metamorphic rock is just one type of rock that has morphed into another kind of rock by being under an extreme pressure and very high temperatures. The best place for these rocks to form would be around an active fault line. When you have one plate sliding down under another plate, then the pressure and the heat created will be enough for these rocks to become metamorphic.

Knowing how are metamorphic rocks formed will allow you to understand the basics of natural science. The heat that is needed to form these types of rocks is immense. This heat is usually created just by the force of the pressure that is put on the rocks. As this pressure becomes greater, it starts to heat the minerals and elements in the rocks and this will eventually create metamorphic rocks. If you put high enough heat and a strong enough force on any rock it will morph into a metamorphic rock. Thus, by taking sedimentary rocks and keeping them under high pressure and temperatures you can actually end up with a metamorphic rock, as it changes the basic level of its anatomy.

This type of process is the simplest to explain on how are metamorphic rocks formed. You don’t need anything except heat and pressure to create them instead of having to have a certain type of sediment or a special type of mineral. The basics of this process are the easiest to understand. It’s when you start getting into the different types of metamorphic rocks and the processes under which they are created that you start getting into the scientific terms. Just knowing the basics will get you by unless you are trying to impress an actual geologist. If that is the case, then you should probably look up the different kinds of rock such as schist and gneiss and find the way those rocks are made as well.
